Dhekiajuli is a small town on the Northern side of the river Brahmaputra with its head quarter town , Tezpur at a distance of 36 Km on the east and the state capital Guwahati at 136 Km west with the National Highway -15 running through the town. Though a small town with a Revenue Circle Office comprising two moujas and with almost all modern amenities, Dhekiajuli can easily be ascribed as a Mini India with residents from all the corners of India and hence with Multilingual and Multireligions population and with twenty two teagardens allaround the town has become a hub or a small Tea Town. Dhekiajuli has another bright and coloured feather to her cap as thirteen people sacrificed their lives in police firing while trying to hoist the National Flag in the local police station on 20th September, 1942 expected that Dhekiajuli will be declared as a Swahid Nagari (Martyre’s Town). With the residential cottage left behind here at Dhekiajuli town by Padmabhusan Puspalata Das and Padmabhusan Omeo Kumar Das has been maintained by a Memorial Trust as Heritage Site and also looked after by the Municipality as the whole area bears testimony of their activity during freedom struggle. Dhekiajuli Town committee was constituted in the year 1958 with Late Rebati Kumar Tamuli as its first Chairman. Sunsequently it was upgrated to Municipality in the year 1974 and since there Dhekiajuli Municipality has been endeavouring with all sincerity to mitigate the sufferings and to lookafter the comefost of its tax prayers.

As of 2011 India census, Dhekiajuli has a population of 21,579. Males constitute 51.42% of the population and females 48.58%. Dhekiajuli has an average literacy rate of 81.41%, higher than the national average of 74.04%. Male literacy rate is 85.07% while female literacy rate is 77.54%. 9.58% of the population is under 6 years of age. The town is fairly active in commercial trade centres. There is a daily market and weekly market hosting numerous shop vendors and people who sell their own as well as the local produce. The weekly market is open on Sundays. The town and its shops, except for medical centres and other public services, are officially closed on Tuesdays for restocking supplies.

Geography

Dhekiajuli is located at 26.7°N 92.5°E. It has an average elevation of 100 metres (328 ft). There are several tea estates in its vicinity. Some of the major ones include Sapoi, Julia, Dibru-Darrang, Tinkhuria and Deckiajuli TE, Panbari TE run by Kanoi Groups of Companies) etc. Orang National Park is 31.7 km west of the main town of Dhekiajuli. The river Brahmaputra crosses the town.
